Ballet is a traditional form of dance which developed in Europe. Ballet trains the body to be long, flexible, strong, and epressive. At ACCSD, each ballet teacher has his or her unique way of teaching.
Students at ACCSD are highly encouraged (or required, depending on the program) to take ballet, as it will help them excel at other styles and techniques.
We make ballet fun and accessible for all ages, and are grateful to pass on this age old tradition to the next generation of young dancers.
Contemporary Dance is a style which emphasizes creativity and using the full range of movements and expression in the body. Contemporary derives from a wide range of techniques and choreographic styles, and is interpreted differently by each teacher, creating a wonderful variety that exposes dancers to something new all the time!
We love contemporary for its boundless energy and possibility, inspiring dancers to always think outside the box.
Jazz is perhaps the most recognizable style of all, as it has been present in Broadway musicals, Hollywood films, television commercials, movies, and other media throughout the last several decades. Jazz focuses on clean lines, sharpness, softness, and a sense of class. It can be classy, sassy, or athletic, but is always a great time for dancers and audiences alike.
Tap is all about rhythm, using metal "taps" as an instrument and a dance shoe.
Tap has many styles. Broadway tap focuses on the choreography of the whole body in conjunction with rhythmic tap steps. Rhythm tap focuses on creating interesting and challenging rhythms.
Hip hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements.
The class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as a rigorous warm-up to help prepare students for more intense movements.
Musical Theatre and Acting go hand in hand. It is a class designed to teach the fundamental skills necessary to deal with both music and acting within broadway-style shows and performances.
At ACCSD, we teach the children how to embody different types of characters and how those characters express themselves through voice, music, and dance.
We use professional mats and trampolines in our studios to teach the skills of rolling, jumping, walking on hands, walkovers, handsprings, and even flips if the student is ready to go to that level.
We are very conscious of safety in our acro classes, making it abundantly clear that students must only attempt the dangerous tricks that they are ready and capable of doing safely.
